In October of 1967 Advertisements in Glass Trade Journals read as follows:

"Most Successful Idea in Candlelight - Ever!
New "Glimmers" by Viking

Ever since their introduction this summer, these stunning 2-piece candle holders have been a best seller.

Pictured on the first page of the 1968 - 1969 Viking Catalog were "Diamond Point Glimmers" in colors Amber, Bluenique, Thistle, Crystal, Persimmon, Ruby and Avocado. Complete with a 10 hour Candle. Smokeless. Odorless. The 1968 Viking Glass Price List did not list Persimmon (They listed Amberina) or Ruby but they were shown in the Catalog. It was sold in "Thistle" and only available in 1969 there must have been a very limited production. The retail price from Viking Price List was $3.00.

Pictured in the advertisement was the "Diamond Point Glimmer" #6700. The Diamond Point was the leader in different "Glimmer" designs Viking Art Glass started in 1967. Viking just called them "Glimmers", I don't know where the name "Diamond Point" came from but it works for me.

The 1970 Viking Catalog showed the "Glimmers" available on page 3. Shown in colors Crystal, Ruby and Lime Green. The Lime Green (Vaseline) was only available in 1970 and must have been a very limited production. Lime, Charcoal and Ruby colors were added to the 1970 Viking Catalog Price List. Selling now for $3.50 each and $4.00 for Ruby. I do not have the Charcoal Glimmer in the Gallery.

WOW! Does This Baby Glow! Under Black Light!

These first three Diamond Point Glimmers, Thistle, Lime (Vaseline), and Charcoal were only made in this short period of time between late 1969 and 1970. They were 3 of the hardest Glimmers for me to get for the Gallery. They had to be very few of each of these colors made. I believe in the low hundreds or less were made and how many survived?

Charcoal was listed in the 1970 Price List but no Charcoal items were shown in the 1970 Viking Catalog.

The 1970 Viking Price listed only 3 items under the Charcoal Color. They were the Diamond Point, Owl and Pot Belly Stove Glimmers. In 1971 Viking introduced the Color "Steel". There is a little confusion with these 2 colors but these 3 Glimmers were sold as Charcoal in 1970.

Thistle - Lime (Vaseline) - Brown
Diamond Point Glimmer had Very Short Production!

The 1971 Viking Catalog only pictured the Ruby "Diamond Point Glimmer" on page 6. The 1971 Viking Catalog listed colors Crystal, Green (Avocado), Bluenique, Amber, Steel (Charcoal) and Ruby. No Persimmon, Lime or Thistle was listed.

The 1972 Viking Catalog showed a pair of Brown "Diamond Point Glimmers" on page 1. These were the only ones shown and I do not have a 1972 Price List. These could be tough to get your hands on.

The 1973 Viking Catalog Cover showed;

"Jewels of Light

by Viking"

"Jewels of Light by Viking" on the cover as Viking introduced even more "Glimmer" patterns. The #6700 "Diamond Point Glimmer" was shown sold in Green (Avocado),embedded in a circle of flowers on Page one of this Catalog.

The 1973 Viking Catalog pictured over 15 different styled "Glimmers".

The #6700 "Diamond Point Glimmer" was shown sold in Green (Avocado), Blue, Crystal, Amber and Ruby in the 1973 Price List. Persimmon and Plum colors were blacked out. All were priced at $4.00.

The 1974 Viking Catalog showed a full page of "Glimmers" on page 2. The Bluenique and Ruby "Diamond Point Glimmers" were pictured.

The Avocado Green, Amber, Bluenique and Ruby are by far the most common of all colors and remained in the line the longest.

In the past year a number of the Bluenique Diamond Point Glimmers have sold, on Ebay, for over $40 delivered.

Brown and Persimmon Dropped From Viking Catalog

The 1975 - 1976 Viking Catalog also showed a full page of different "Glimmers" with a pair of 6.5 Inch Ruby and Avocado "Diamond Point Glimmers" included. The Price list showed them available in Avocado, Bluenique, Amber, Ruby and Crystal. No Brown or Persimmon Colors were listed. Now all colors were selling for $5.00 and Ruby $5.50.

Amber seems to be the most common. It is hard to say which color was made the most but with Amber color getting more popular today they will soon disappear.

Diamond Point Glimmers continue to be a best seller for Viking. 10 years after they were introduced some colors have been dropped and new colors added. The price is now double compared to their issued price in 1967.

The 1976 - 1977 Viking Catalog had a 2-Page spread of "Glimmers" on pages 10 and 11. 2 pairs, Crystal and Ruby "Diamond Point Glimmers", were shown. The 11/1/1976 Viking Price list showed them available in Avocado, Bluenique, Amber, Persimmon, Ruby and Crystal. No Brown was listed. Now all colors were selling for $5.50 and Ruby $6.50.

Crystal was also in and out of the price list. I don't know if it was offered all 10 years. It doesn't show up on Ebay as often as Amber, Avocado and Ruby.

Persimmon Diamond Point Glimmer was added back into production in the 1977 Viking Catalog.

The Persimmon and Avocado Diamond Point Glimmers show up quit often on Ebay. Persimmon would probably come in second in a listing race and would bring more money. Persimmon, last year, brought close to $45 delivered on Ebay.

The 1977 - 1978 Viking Catalog was still showing a 2 page spread of "Glimmers" but now they were back on pages 26 and 27. "Glimmers" must have been very good sellers at the time because Viking continued to add new designs and colors as they kept old stand by's like the "Diamond Point Glimmer" in the line. A pair of Persimmon "Diamond Point Glimmers" was shown.

Persimmon Diamond Point Glimmer may be a sleeper as the color all of a sudden is sought after.

The 11/1/1977 Viking Price Lists showed colors available were Avocado, Bluenique, Amber, Orange (Persimmon), Crystal and Ruby. Now selling for $6.50 and $8.00 for Ruby. No Brown was shown.

The 1978 - 1979 Viking Catalog had another 2 - page spread back on pages 26 and 27 with some new designed "Glimmer" 2 pair of "Diamond Point Glimmers" were still in the photo.

1980 Viking Brings out

The Satin Frosted "Diamond Point Glimmer" in an unknown number of colors!

The 1979 - 1980 Viking Catalog solved the mystery of the Satin "Diamond Point Glimmers". The Amber and Bluenique Satin Frosted "Diamond Point Glimmers" were shown on page 27. In the Price list they listed colors Green, Bluenique Amber and Orange. Regular colors were $8.95 and Ruby was $9.95.

I have seen the Satin Frosted "Diamond Point Glimmer" also in Amber Satin Frost. So for sure we know they were made in Ruby, Bluenique, Amber, Green and Persimmon Satin Frost.

I think there must have been only one pour made of these and I doubt if the numbers would even reach a hundred of each color. I hope someone who worked at the factory can confirm some of the numbers made of these rare pieces and colors.

Time will tell on the number of these Frosted Glimmers. I will continue to finish this collection and keep you well informed. These are some of my personal favorites!

The Five Satin Frosted "Diamond Point Glimmers" that I speak of in this article are very highly sought after. I have been out bid on Ebay for the Amber Satin Frost. I guess I will have to keep raising the value.

We know from Viking Catalogs that all these Satin Frosted Glimmers were production items. That is not to say some unscrupulous person could not dip a regular Glimmer to make it Satin. Not likely but as these climb in value beware.

It would not surprise me to see a Crystal Satin Frost that may have been an original color but beyond that I would be very cautious.

The 1980 - 1981 Viking Catalog still showed an Amber, Avocado and Ruby "Diamond Point Glimmer". They also showed a 2-Tone "Diamond Point Glimmer" with a Crystal Frost Bottom and a Ruby Red Top.

Rarely Come Up For Sale!

Spring Blossom Colors Introduced in 1980 Viking Catalog - Colors Spring Blue and Spring Green.

Viking introduced New Colors in this Catalog in a New "Viking Spring Blossom" look. The "Diamond Point Glimmer" was shown in the New Spring Blue colorLeft on page 11 of this Catalog.

It was also made in Spring Green Below both very light colors. The 1980 - 1981 Viking Price list showed colors available in Avocado, Bluenique, Amber, Orange (Persimmon), Crystal, Spring Blue, Spring Green and Ruby. All selling for 8.95 with Ruby at $9.95.

These Spring Blue

and Spring Green Glimmers

Had a very short Production!

The 1981 - 1982 showed the "Diamond Point Glimmer" in Amber, Persimmon and Ruby.

The 1982 Viking Catalog showed the #6700 "Diamond Point Glimmer" on page 21 in Amber, Persimmon, Crystal and Ruby all were priced at $6.25 with Ruby at $6.75

The 1983 Supplement to the 1982 Viking Catalog did not show the #6700 "Diamond Point Glimmer".

LILAC - The Lilac Color was introduced by Viking in 1980.

Just about the time you think you have a collection complete another color pops up. I bought this Lilac Glimmer off Ebay in July of 2008. It is not shown in any of my Viking Catalogs but I know it was made by Viking in the early 80's.

The 1982 Viking Catalog shows a number of Glimmers made in the Lilac Color. The Diamond Point Glimmers were sold at this time but the Catalogs did not show or list this Scarce Color.

Many of the Lilac pieces were also shown with the Satin Frost look so it would not surprise me if one more shows up in that Scarce color.

PEACH - The last Viking Color added to the "Diamond Point Glimmer" life cycle.

The 1984 - 1985 Viking Catalog showed the "Diamond Point Glimmer" in the Peach color on page 21. The 1984-1985 Price List showed Crystal and Peach for $7.50 each and Ruby for $8.00.

The last reference I have is a January of 1986 Price List that shows only Crystal and Ruby "Diamond Point Glimmers" for $8.00 and $8.50.

Conclusion: If you have a color I am missing, I am interested in adding it too the Gallery, please let me know. I know I need the Amber and Green Satin and Lite Charcoal or (Steel). Other colors may be out there so let me know!!! They make for a very beautiful collection and display well. I still use them in my home.
